The flanks of grinding wheel worms for
Reishauer type machines have to be dressed with diamond dressing disks.
Tooth form correction, such as crowning and tip relief, for example, can be
directly built into the dressing disks. Diamond dressing disks can be
re-lapped several times. To counteract excessive edge wear, PCD inserts or
triangular shaped Maccle diamonds are sometimes used for edge reinforcement.
Two methods are used for the manufacture of
SPA and DSA disks:
Type DS
Infiltration method (Sintered bond): Diamonds are sintered with
powder-metallurgical bond (the more wear resistant type), particularly
suitable if the root of the grinding wheel has to be dressed.
